Rec Registration
Registration is now open for any one is grades 2nd through 8th. Please register at www.grybl.org. The season is scheduled to begin with an informal practice/shoot around late November. The regular season typically begins first weekend of December through early March.
Should you know someone who was not on the distribution list last year or new to town, please forward this email and the recipient will be added to the mailing list upon registration.
Our 2nd Grade Boys clinic and 2nd/3rd Grade Girls age group will remain a clinic. These clinics will be 50 minutes in length and will be parent led and split between fundamentals and drills and a scrimmage.
As we are using last year's distribution list and, some of you may not have a child eligible for the rec program. Please bear with us and as soon as registration is complete, you will no longer receive emails
We are looking forward to a great season,
GRYBL Board
Rules Per Grade
These clinics will be 50 minutes in length on Saturdays and will be parent led. The main focus will be introducing key fundamentals and drills. The second part of clinic will be a scrimmage between both teams.
The purpose of this league is the continued development of our young players. The league encourages all coaches to work on developing and strengthening the players' skills on the court. All coaches and players should maintain the highest standards of good sportsmanship and respect for their fellow teammates, coaches, opponents and referees. Please remember this is RECREATIONAL basketball (for FUN and enjoyment of all).
GAMES:
- A game shall consist of TWO (2) 20 MINUTE HALVES.
- Three minutes between halves.
- The clock will be stopped for the last min of 1st half and 2 minutes of 2nd HALF for out of bounds, free throws, substitutions, injuries, etc. ***THE CLOCK WILL ALSO BE STOPPED EVERY 5 MIN FOR SUBSTITUTIONS THROUGHOUT THE GAME***
- Each team will have 2 time-outs per half, NO CARRYOVERS. (Calling an extra time out you do not have results in a technical foul automatically – no exceptions to this rule other than injuries.)
- No overtime will occur if a game is tied at the end of regulation play, except during playoff games. In playoff games, there will be a 3 minute running clock. The clock will stop for free throws and substitutions and time-outs. (There will be one time out per team in each overtime.)
- Intentional fouls will result in 2 free throws and the ball then goes to the team that was fouled.
- There is a "5-second" lane violation (not a 3-second lane violation) on offensive players.
- 3 Pointers will only count as 2 Points
DEFENSE:
- Man-to-man defense must be played. If not, the referee shall call a technical foul for illegal defense. Defender should be half way between their man and the lane – NOT IN THE LANE unless their man is in the lane as well, but does not have to go past the three point line to defend.
- Double Teaming is permitted only in the key.
- Picking up the player until the original defender catches up is permitted.
- Defensive switching is allowed.
- NO ZONE DEFENSES PERMITTED. All defenses must be played in the front-court. We want these kids to start learning how to manage an offense…if they pick up and pressure too early it becomes too much one-on-one and turnovers. No defense beyond the three point arc.
- Half court man-to-man defense is permitted in the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half and all of overtime (still no zone defenses). IF YOU ARE AHEAD BY 10 OR MORE POINTS YOU MAY NOT PRESS UNTIL YOUR LEAD IS LESS THAN 10 POINTS.
FOULS:
- Each player is allowed 5 fouls (this includes technical fouls) before fouling out. (This means that upon committing their 5th foul they are out of the game.)
- If there are not enough players, then the player may continue to play, but each foul over 5 will result in 2 free throws AND possession for the opposing team.
PLAYING TIME:
- ALL PLAYERS MUST PLAY AT LEAST HALF THE GAME (unless there are more than 10 players present).
(This is mandatory - not just a polite request.)
- Attempt to have each player start at least one game during the season.
- If there are less than 5 players from your roster to start the game, a "gym rat" may be used until a fifth player arrives. At that time, the "gym rat" may no longer play. Then the game must continue with five players. NOTE: If a "gym rat" is used, he/she is not allowed to score. If he/she does score, no points will be added, and the ball will be given to the opposing team.
Note to all parents/coaches & players:
The only goals of the recreational basketball program are to make sure that all participants develop their skills in some aspect of the game, and that all participants enjoy the experience enough to want to play again next year.
That being said, it is inevitable that some minor disputes will arise, perhaps both on and off the court. Please keep in mind the “golden rule” of rec sports: IT IS ALL ABOUT THE KIDS!! If a situation occurs that you feel needs addressing please contact me and I will try and resolve it. Do not interact with referees, or coaches, or other parents in a negative manner, please air any grievances with me before taking them public.
Thank you all for allowing your child to participate in the Rec Basketball program…I look forward to a successful and rewarding season for all.
